and if you do try it, no, the game isnt broken.
They seriously DONT let you pick the maps you want to play.

....the game really is broken... in many ways. Infinity Ward doesnt care.

Also, no dedicated servers. It works like the xbox and ps3. Peer to Peer!

Looks that way since the file is only 3.86GB. Also, if you use the Steam Beta client you need to go back to the standard client to DL it.

So exactly how does it suck, or why? Just curious on the specifics of applying P2P to this game, as in what are the shortcomings, like what DA stated about the inability to choose maps.

I played for 2 hours or so and only 2 maps were smooth. I played those same maps later and they were choppy as hell(lag) so the person hosting had to be the culprit. Since the client pics someone to host the server from their PC, you are at the mercy of their computer and their pipe. On 2 of the matches the host left so everything stopped while a new host was found. The matches(with exception of the first two) were riddled with laggy movement - not like 80-100ms lag, more like 180-200ms feeling lag.

I still remember when 200 was common!!! ;)

P2P sucks for any big-player count games. Even if the majority of processing is done on the individuals machine, all geometry and hit counts should be kept on an independent server, especially for something like this (you THINK anyone would lower their settings to make sure their machine had enough reserve to host AND play?)

The problem is, most game makers are shooting (pun) for the Console Crowd first, and not bothering to adapt for teh PC. Odd, when they could probably get PC's to host even the console games if they wanted to......

I modified the ping bars and played for a while. I don't think I had a game in 8 hours less than 150 ping.

consoles aside, P2P is horrible in general ESPECIALLY for PC's.

With consoles, everyone has the same stats. Not so with PC's.
Since you cant choose who will be the host (unless you block off some ports), even a person with a crappy PC can become a host for 12 people! This adds to the lag and choppiness.

Then you have subscriber broadband...NOT suited for multiplayer hosting. And if they do have one that is suited, it's not at a good location. Almost all dedicated servers are midwest with a good route.

Then you have the host himself with a big advantage. Many-a-time have I been 1 shotted, just to see myself in the replay getting shot at with half a clip.

This is A LOT of the reason I gave the game up! Just to actually get in a game was work and no fun. Once in a game you would get selecting new host and there was a 50/50 chance the game would end because the connection couldn't be switched smoothly. Not only that, a lot of times it chose me to be the host but for some reason when the match started it was only me and no one could connect. I'd imagine it's a Windows 7 security thing that I have no idea how to change but I have all ports open and DMZ enabled. I think that's the terminology. Anyway, there's no router firewalls, windows firewalls, or software firewalls enabled either. I really did like this game but with all the let downs in the middle of a match for the game to crash and the MASS OF HACKERS just got old. :( If all these issues were ever resolved I'd be apt to try it again.
