Looks like we will officially be supporting other devices here besides the blackberry. For instance, Droid and iphones.

The question came up that since we are doing this, how can we make it work for us. So I have been hunting for IT Support apps (server side, client side, doesnt matter) that would help make our jobs easier or even more efficient.

I already found a nice app that is for both the BB and iphone that lets you use Remedy Action Request System.

Anyone here have any experience with other apps?

Take a look at Logmein Rescue.

https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/US/Helpdesk/Home.aspx

Remote support of PC, Mac, and mobile devices with no preinstalled software. A single seat is $150.00 a month or $1,100.00 per year, I believe.

We use it for just PCs right now. I have had exactly 2 instances in 3 years where it wouldn't connect.

How do they calculate the "per seat" aspect? Based on the local user or remote PC that's connected to?

We have one account that two of us share. We are in different states. One can take the console from the other. We just can't be logged in at the same time (but one tech can handle multiple simultaneous sessions with clients.)

Nice. I might hafta look into this. Does it use RPC to connect? What configuration is required on the target side in order to connect?

It's web based. Browser on technician console; single use throwaway app downloaded at the time on client side. They also have unattended mode where you can get in without the user present (user has to agree to everything otherwise.)

The remote app can be restarted as a system service, so that you can log in as a different user.

If you want to try it from the client's perspective PM me an email address to send a remote link to. You can also go to http://www.logmein123.com and enter a 6-digit code given over the phone (good when receiving email is impractical.)

They have a free trial you can sign up for. I think it's a month.

Cool, I will add that to my list. I got a couple of the same per device.

Team viewer (http://teamviewer.com/download/iphone.aspx) looks cool too

I'm still trying to find apps that would make "life easier". Like what would NOT make us have to go back to our desks?

Rove Admin (http://www.roveit.com/products/) kind of helps with that (for the BB)
