It seems that we can convert easily UT and UT2004 maps to UT3 with this tool UT3 Converter2 (http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/588848-UT3-Converter2-0.25a-09-23-2010). (Maybe Unreal1 maps too because of the Oldunreal patch that update unrealed1 to unrealed2 for Unreal gold)
I'm gonna try this...also i'm gonna try some test in UDK. (UDK means free new game :D)
I imagine this is just accelerate the import of all the stuff because all the code is different in UT3 maybe a lot of work need to be done to fix and add all the missing things.

ok my first impression... This seems good to convert the UT maps but this is not export original ut2004 textures and stuff. Useless to convert UT2004 maps since we can do a copy paste of the structure directly from an editor to another.
Many things are not set correctly and of course the UT lightning setting sucks under UT3. We need a light over each item spawner in UT3. This not generate any additional lights. This is not making animation for the doors, movers etc.
At least all textures seems at the right place and position. Just that save many days of work for the UT map conversion maybe Unreal map too. But for the UT2004 maps it is not faster than doing the import manually.
UT3 use a new system called Kismet for the animations like lift etc.. and this not create any anim. Not a big thing to do but I am stuck with that right now after conterting Ranel to UT3.

You have a tool to auto place all the lights over pickup bases in Unrealed for UT3. Soo emmm.. It is very simple when you have done it once and know the steps. Some pickups and lights fix need to be done and of course all the movers (lifts) and lift enter, lift exit for bots need to be fixed.
Each steps are explained for the import in the converter. The other things are explained elsewhere on the net. Unrealed pop up a list of things to fix each time you built the map.
