I could have played the vanilla UT99 4ever!

I think everyone loves the idea of playing UT99 but when it really comes to playing it nobody really would.
People would play for a hour or two then get bored just like in 2003.
People were playing several hours each night back then and to get 10 players to show up from say 8pm-12 each night would be impossible now.

Too many entertainment options out there now. There was no xbox-live,ps3,wii,guitar hero-rock band,WOW etc back then.

Actually, the one other thing that comes in for many of us is REAL LIFE.

When I was single and living by myself in my own pad, if I decided to stay shut in instead of hitting the bars, that was all night on Friday or Saturday. Now I do not have that decision. I do that one night and I have other obligations to pay back (wife, kid).

So combine life with other entertainment choices and you can see why people do not get online for 99 anymore, despite its classic vibe.

So, y'all wanna party like it's 1999? :p:eek::cool::):D

Funny but I just looked it up at metacritic and Unreal 1999 only made #39 on the top PC games of all time. 2004 ranked #16!

http://www.metacritic.com/games/pc/scores/

Maybe you all should get over there and raise its ranking!!! :D:D:D:D

Seems the developers have been sleeping for 5 yrs or so... :(
If all you players wake em up - shake em up maybe they'll come up with something great for 2010!!!!

Okay... here's some love (and facts) for you! According to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA)... you guys fall right into the average gamer profile. So stop whining and complaining and start playing again!!! :p If all the other 35 yr. olds who have been playing for about 12 years can find time to play... why can't you?!?!? :p

Game Player Data

Video games are no longer just a form of entertainment for children and young adults alone, and the old stereotypes of a gamer no longer apply. The ESA's "2009 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry" show that 68 percent of American households play computer and video games. The research also reveals other interesting demographic facts about today's gamers and the games they play, including:

The average gamer is 35 years old and has been playing for 12 years.

Forty percent of all players are women and women over 18 years of age are one of the industry's fastest growing demographics. Today, adult women represent a greater portion of the game-playing population (34 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (18 percent).

Twenty-five percent of game players are over the age of 50, an increase from nine percent in 1999. This figure is sure to rise in coming years with nursing homes and senior centers across the nation now incorporating video games into their activities.

Forty-two percent of homes in America have a video game console.

Fifty-seven percent of online game players are male and 43 percent are female. Thirty-seven percent of heads of households report they play games on wireless devices such as a cell phone or PDA, up from 20% in 2002.
Ninety-two percent of the time parents are present at the time games are purchased or rented. Seventy-seven percent of parents believe that the parental controls available in all new video game consoles are useful. In addition, 63 percent of parents believe games are a positive part of their children’s lives.

I say you just pick a time that you always try to get online to play... say every thursday at 8pm or the first Sunday of every month at 7pm or something... and just start showing up. Just make it less random when you might find each other on the server and it might catch on. Being that I'm part of the fastest growing demographic of gamers, (women over 18), I think you should listen to me!!! :-)

For some reason it won't load on my machine..... Is anyone having that problem?

Back to OT, It would be nice if someone just upgraded the original to the new engines. Matched gameplay speed and dynamics and called it "CLASSIC MODE".

Just a thought.
