I was midgame and my game minimized(Fallout3 o'course). About 10 seconds later a window popped up letting me know that Quicktime updates were available.

I had already disabled qtttask in msconfig, have no listed QT related services in the services tab of msconfig, and no HJT entries related to Quicktime.

What made this thing pop up?

I'm stumped - not to mention pissed since the game window wouldn't restore and I lost a game save point.

Remove quicktime.

Download Quicktime Alternative.

Vista or XP?

In Vista, a lot of programs can't modify the startup routines, so they schedule themselves in the task scheduler.

Well something's gotta be running.

Check for background browser tasks maybe that have loaded the QT plugin. Check HJT more closely. And check the task scheduler too.
