OK, our British Big Brother has determined that this site is evil because people played games 10 years ago and talked about it here.
Actually, they are just using a new filter, and the Proxy in England has been tweaked to forbid sites like this, Awkward Zombie and other evil places.
I am really beginning to hate the slow but steady stripping of all perks from a relatively unexciting job. The pay was good before the recession, but now it is Meh, and removing IM, then streaming media, and now sites like this is getting to be just too much.
hehe. I believe they have a set of whitelist sites and the other sites are determined using some scanning logic. Hard to avoid.

That sucks man, I believe that sites like this are a stress reliever and something that should be open to everyone. Individual abuses should be handled on individual cases, not a blanket removal. :)

i gave up at our office. they have so much stuff locked down it's ridiculous. we make food products, not national secrets, but damn if you'd know the difference between working here or the nsa! fortunately, due to the nature of my work, i need to test things from outside our network, so i probably spend a majority of my time rdp'd into my machine at home. i have a feeling some of the stuff is going to come to a head soon at work though. they've started implementing draconian policies on everyone's phones and people are starting to get fuming mad. i tell people to just wait until they roll it out to the execs and then when they start screaming, things will be relaxed.

>sigh<
Yeah, sucks big time. The odd thing is, they are not encouraging my productivity, AAMOF, I keep trying to figure out how to get around it (Web on the phone? How to use? LONG bathroom breaks? ;) )
One of the most annoying things is the lack of VPN now. You have to bring a company computer home to work from home. How efficient is that? Especially when my machine is faster and has 2 20" screens?
These executives really do not think sometimes. I wonder how much OUR execs are being paid (or how many of our expenses are now outsourced) that made this seem like a good idea. When we were raking in $$ because of our projects, they did not restrict anything (really), but now?
Feh.

Well, THATS about security.
At least with my company. If you are on VPN, that means you are on the network and they dont want any computer with an outdated antivirus on the network

The question would then be to limit read/write ability, which, to my experience, has been limited across VPN. you pretty much only issued remote commands, not actual data transfer (I had to webmail anything to transfer).
I know what they are saying about security, that is just the easier way to do it, not necessarily the better or more efficient way.

we have the same restriction re: vpn'ing into the office. i got around it by creating a VM of one of my office systems and then migrating that VM over to my home machine. now, if i need to vpn into work and forgot to bring my laptop home, i can fire up the VM which then connects to our office. it was kind of hokey since i'm using virtualbox at home, but had to use vmware to virtualize my work system, but, iirc, VB read the VMWare image just fine. more than one way to skin a cat!

Ah, so you are imitating a work machine, then double-virtualing into the office?
Kinda defeats the whole purpose of the thing, don't it? ;)

I use Citrix. After logging into Citrix I use RDP and get access to my work system that way.
