  • IP redirecting through VMware

I'm working on setting up a web server on my desktop with the following setup and configurations so far.

    Domain prep:
    I have registered a domain through GoDaddy.com
I have setup with zoneedit.com to redirect my domain name to my desktops current IP (dynamic) through their dns nameservers and attached such to GoDaddy

    Local Setup:
Installed VMware 8 on my desktop (7 Ult x64) and created a VM with Server 2008 R2 which I want to serve pages from

How do I redirect hits to my IP for my web site to the VM bypassing my desktop directly?

Edit: Will port forwarding HTTP requests to the VM's separate local IP address through my router do the trick?

Edit2: :P It's working now but doesn't respond when including www. It only responds to http://domainname.net. Why is that?

what is your web server? In Windows's web server, you have to specify both www. and without www for the site.

      Ah... I bet that's it.

I'm serving on Windows Server 2008 R2. Is it a role or feature I need to add?

None of those. When you create a website, it asked you what the name of the website is. You can go back in there to edit it. At the same place, you can add more domain name to the same site. That's where you put in the www.whatever.com as another name for the same site.
