Thread: "New" Dell Laptop

    Inspirons are sh!tware, ironically.

Probably one of the worst laptops Dell made.

Vostro is the Inspiron of the business line.

For personal, Inspiron is the lowest end, XPS is the highest end.
For business, Vostro is the lowest end, Latitude is the highest end.

You get what you pay for with business and personal.

They're all better than most OEM manufacturer products, and all of them are extremely user-serviceable which is why I buy them. I can easily tear them down to nothign and build them back up. Try that with a Sony Vaio....

i have a e1705 inspiron at home i have had for 4 years at least, it has been tossed off a balcony, and slammed on the ground more than once (not by me of course) and it still works fine, lol, if it happened to this vostro, i have no doubt it would be destroyed

That's great. The same way you got a lemon with your Vostro, you sometimes get lucky with the Inspirons.

I had three e1505 in my fleet at the office because some idiot decided to make purchases while I was out. They all died within the first 18 months of light travel by our sales and deployment team members - and not dead drives, we're talking the LCD inverter/backlights were dead, one power port came unsoldered, daughterboard for USB ports fried, we lost two hard drives on one of them in less than 6 months, dead touchpad (which is a PITA to replace), and all three had a dead motherboard within the first 18 months. From the parts of all three we cobbled together one working system which is still alive. Meanwhile, I have 85% of all of our Latitude D600 laptops purchased 6-7 years ago up and running 24/7 in our lab racks carrying out automated testing....and that's after spending their first 3 years of life travelling with engineers and sales people, then the following two years travelling for demos (which is brutal)....

I dunno. I hear you. You got lucky on yours. I got a dead one (e1505) from one of my neighbors that was about a year old, tore it down and refurb'd it with spare parts from the three here at the office, and gave it to my FIL. That one had a dead network jack and dead wifi card, pretty worthless to have a laptop that can't use the internet. He still uses it to this day, two years later. Go figure?

sounds like a clock speed difference, it's the only thing that would be that radical.

im wondering if it could have been a fluke on the first laptop, from what i read no one seemed to get scores that high on it

It had to have happened somehow..... I don't buy the "fluke" thing.
